Spurring a lot of letters and emails to the City Council and with charges that the opponents over stated the benefit of refusing to give this tax break, the New Orleans City Council voted to reject the request by Folger Coffee for a tax break noting: that improvements did not meet standards set by the city to qualify for exemptions and arguing the city needed the money in the face of coronavirus-related budget shortfalls.
