GNOICC signed the December 15, 2025 Earthjustice letter opposing the SPEED Act because the legislation would significantly weaken the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), reducing environmental protections, public transparency, and community input in federal decision-making.

The letter argues that the bill prioritizes private project timelines and profits over public health, environmental safeguards, and democratic accountability by limiting public participation and restricting judicial review. It also fails to address the real causes of permitting delays, such as under-resourced agencies, while risking disproportionate harm to frontline and environmental justice communities.

By signing on, GNOICC joined more than 150 organizations in calling on Congress to reject false “permitting reform” and instead pursue solutions that protect communities, uphold environmental justice, and support responsible, accountable development.
