According to NOLA.com, a $15.7 million grant has been awarded to the State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of Energy (DOE). The target of this grant is reducing methane emissions from oil and gas operations in Louisiana. The new EPA funds come from the Inflation Reduction Act’s greenhouse gas emission program. The DNR hopes to use the money to convince owners to plug wells that are producing only small amounts of oil or natural gas, but that are leaking methane into the atmosphere.
