How Viking advertise this cruise

Writing for the Times-Picayune|Advocate, Robert Stewart reports that Project Cypress is getting a big bundle of money from the federal government. It’s $603 million to be exact.

Project Cypress? Sounds cool! What is it, a reforestation initiative?

Nope, sorry. Get this: it’s a giant vacuum cleaner. That’s right, over half a billion is being allocated to build a giant vacuum in Calcasieu Parish. It’s supposed to suck carbon dioxide straight out of the air and then sequester it deep, deep in the bowels of the Earth.

Now as you may know, we’ve been sounding the alarm about carbon in the atmosphere, so you might think we’re in favor of this giant vacuum cleaner. However, it’s a little more complicated than that. We’ve advocated strongly on behalf of reducing emissions, which is distinctly different from sucking them back down. We fear this is a false solution which raises a whole holy host of concerns.

Read the whole story for additional details, but note there’s no mention of dissenting voices.
